Mr. Binh also said that operators are strengthening solutions to overcome this situation such as: Caching, CDN, to bring data closer to users, reduce dependence on international traffic, as well as find ways promote applications, domestic content.

At the end of 2019, there was also a situation where three cable lines had problems together. At that time, the AAG, IA and AAE-1 routes were faulty or broken, seriously affecting the international Internet access of domestic users.

Undersea fiber optic cable in Vietnam is still considered to be lacking and weak. At the Internet Day event at the end of 2021, a representative of Viettel Networks said that undersea optical cables in Vietnam have problems 10 times a year, each repair lasts a whole month. This makes the network operator only exploit 3/4 of the cable’s capacity.

In Vietnam, there are currently 7 undersea cable routes serving more than 97 million people, this means that on average there will be about 14 million people on one cable line. If compared with other countries in the region such as Singapore and Thailand, this number is low. Meanwhile, the demand for Internet use in Vietnam is increasing day by day.

According to a representative of the Department of Telecommunications – Ministry of Information and Communications, to improve the quality of broadband Internet, telecommunications businesses need to implement four solutions:

• Upgrade bandwidth with the goal of mass coverage of more than 70% of users of the 100 Mb/s package by 2022
• Replace your old modem/router with a new model that supports dual band 2.4 and 5 GH
• Strengthening international cable routes
• Revise standards to improve quality.

In addition, users are recommended to promote the use of domestic technology products to limit the impact when international connections have problems.
